Responses to MK Fleming's take on Brittany Runs a Marathon

There is NO SUCH THING as 'recreational Adderall".

It's actually "Prescription Drug Abuse", and Brittany needs to stop running marathons and get a new doctor as well as a therapist.

Two days ago, I recorded a livestream listing the problematic themes in Brittany Runs a Marathon. I wanted to get ahead of the podcasts I created with Coach Sarah, and make sure any blowback for an opinion I was certain would be unpopular, came directly at ME.

If you missed those themes, blame Diet Culture. Diet culture values weight loss at all costs, only caring 'how' you lose the weight once your BMI falls below 17, where the clinical definition of anorexia begins.

We don't call out disordered eating patterns or habits anywhere. I can't NOT see them, and I call things as I see them, so I grudgingly decided to call out the problems I saw in BRAM.

Why do I care? Because I hate anything that tells my kids that fat is bad and people they love are bad because fat. I hate anything that reduces Prescription Drug Abuse to the same category as eating an edible. We can argue whether marijuana can be used recreationally, but we should agree that Schedule II drugs CANNOT be used recreationally.

What message are we sending our kids when we say that trying to get a powerful stimulant in order to lose weight is normal? Don't take it from me, take it from the listeners who wrote in to tell me about Diet Culture, Adderall, Anorexia, Weight Loss, and Their own children.
